PTA General Membership Meeting, January 8, 2009

*Marta Agosti opened the meeting at 7:40 pm

Minutes of 11/13/2008 meeting approved.

Presidents’ Report

*Budget committee needed

– Support previous expenditures

– Review budget

*Bylaw committee needed

–  Review new regulations CR- A-660

– Add Chancellor’s Mandate to existing bylaws

*Career Day on 3/18/2009

– Parents needed to set up breakfast and lunch for the parents who speak to students

*S.O. Dance on 1/27/2009 from 3pm to 6pm (Lunar New Year theme. Asian snacks to be provided)

– Volunteers needed to sell refreshments

Principals’ Report

* 2/10/2009 Report cards distributed

* Parent – Teacher Conferences

– 2/24/2009 evening and 2/26 afternoon

* 80% of kids who applied for Specialized Programs from M.S. 67 are accepted

* Career Day for 8th graders on 3/18/2009

– Volunteers speak to students

–  Program extends from 8:30am through 6th period (12:30) so kids can have lunch

–  Assembly introduces speakers

– Students choose with whom they wish to hear speak

– 3 sessions at 20 minutes each

*2/7/2009 New High School Fair

Mrs. Choit, 6th Grade Assistant Principal

–          ELA exam on 1/21, 1/22 & 1/23

–          Children’s Open House on 1/10 & 1/17 ( ELA Workshop for parents at these dates also)

–          On 1/9/2009, 70 students taking the Hunter College Test

–          1/30/2009 Bullying Assembly

Mr. Chambers, 7th Grade Assistant Principal

–          2/6/2009 Bullying Assembly

–          3/18/2009 Madame Tussauds Wax Museum Trip

–          36 days until the Sate Math Test (3/10 &3/11)

–          Children’s Open House on 2/28 and 3/7 (Workshop for Parents on these dates also)

–          Robotics Team in First Place in Queens Division – 3/7 Competition on larger scale

Mr. Surrett, 8th Grade Assistant Principal

–          Specialized High School results expected on 2/5 and will go home ASAP

–          2/2 New high school choice forms (not in the book)

–          2/26 High school decision due to Guidance Dept.

–          1/17 Citywide Chess Tournament

–          1/23 Ice Skating Night

–          1/29 Night of Music and Art ($10 adults and $5 children)

–          2/11 Valentines Dance from 3pm to 5:30pm

–          2/13 Bullying Assembly

Treasurer’s Report

–          $10,435 Balance

–             $3,160 Fundraising

–             $7,275 Membership

–             $6,902 Expenses

–           $12,427.32 Bank Total

–            $117.50 Payment for envelope printing

School Leadership Team

-Meeting on 12/11/2008

-Comprehensive Education was finalized

-Next meeting is on 1/15 at 3:30pm, where guest speaker (school support officer) will present

Fundraising

-$2,350 received before the holiday

-Membership and Pledge are different line items
