Called meeting to order at 7:20 p.m.

  • PTA Reports:
    • Tuesday, February 19 – President Council District 26, (Website Workshop) – 10:30 a.m. Rm. 217
    • MS 67 Winter Concert – Thursday, January 21 @ 7 p.m. – Auditorium
    • SO Valentine‘s Dance THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11 @ Gym –Volunteers Needed @ 3 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
    • Monday – Friday, February 15 -19 – Winter Recess – SCHOOL CLOSED
    • Tuesday, February 23 – Report Card Distribution
    • Wednesday, February 24- Parent -Teacher Conference @ 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m.
    • Thursday, February 25 – ½ Day – STUDENT DISMISSAL @  11:40 a.m.
    • Thursday, February 25 – Parent -Teacher Conference @ 12:50 p.m. -2:50 p.m.

    • Guest Speaker: Ms. Tessie Skoutakis, ELA Teacher and ARISTA coordinator
      • ARISTA rewards students for academic achievements and volunteer programs. Students in 7th and 8th grade must have an 85% grade average in the five marking periods. Students will receive an award or a certificate if they qualify for ARISTA. Students will be notified in March and awards will be given in May. National Honor Society is required for a 90% in seven out of seven quarters.
    • VP-Membership drive Laura Cocchiarella & Marlene Gallagher
      • Membership collected so far, $8,810.
    • VP-Fundraiser Martha Agosti
      • Candy sale raised $1,200 in gross sales. Second sale will be on the night of the winter concert.
      • Fundraiser drive collected $1,700. A special thanks to all the parents who volunteered!
    • Treasures report-Cindy Yoon
      • The Semi-Annual report will be distributed throughout the school
    • School Leadership Team, Suzanne Berkowitz
      • School budget lost 1%, city wide. School uniforms were addressed but not decided
    • School Safety Committee- Ingrid Guapisaca
      • School is safe and no hazardous materials were found
    • Guest Speaker, Ms. Barbra Choit, 6th Grade Assistant Principal
      • ELA quarterly was given January 12th, Social Studies was given January 13th
      • 6th Grade trip will be seeing the play “1776” at the Broad Hollow Theatre. Tickets are $27 which also covers bus ride. Permission slips will go out; last day of collection will be February 12th. All parents are welcome. ELA PELA tests are on January 28th. DOE mandated acuity ELA practice exams in the week of January 25th. Make up exams are given February 1st and 3rd. ELA practice packets will be given February 5th during winter break and are due February 22nd. Students that complete the packet will be given five points on a future test. Students must sign the document out and in when completed. Foreign languages will switch from Spanish to French, law classes will switch to robotics starting February 1st. Valentine’s Day dance will be on February 11th in the school gym. Winter recess will start February 15th–February 22nd. If child is absent on a school day, please send in an absence note.
    • Mr. Robert Chambers, 7th Grade Assistant Principal
      • December 12th, the math achievement test predictive diagnostic exam was given each grade that was tested in different areas. Saturday, January 23rd, robotics competition won first place last year in Queens out of the three years competed. February 1st-5th, the acuity predictive exam will be given and results will be announced Mid February. There will be a math competition in JHS 198 on February 6th which will have four students compete. Philadelphia trip will be on March 24th, cost is $75. The bus will leave at 6:30 a.m., arrive at 9:00 a.m. Lunch is not included. We will be leaving Philadelphia at 4 p.m., arrive back at 7:30 p.m.
    • Mr. Jeffrey Surrett, 8th Grade Assistant Principal
      • Nigh of music and art will on January 21st at 7 p.m. Art displays will be shown outside the gym. Reminder: dress code must be stated, otherwise students will not be able to perform. Students will remain in their assigned places and cannot be picked up early. Distribution of new high school application forms will be given out February 1st. Specialized results will be individually addressed to students in the mail on February 4th. Main round high school results will be distributed. Report cards go out February 23rd. Parent teacher meeting at night will be held on February 24th. There will be a half day of school for students and a parent teacher afternoon meeting on February 35th.

      • Public notification service is on Sign up to see how you want to be notified in case of emergency closings. March 24th is career day; eleven guest speakers will address students in the auditorium. PTA needs volunteers to help with brunch for guest speakers. Club photo for yearbook will be on February 23rd. Self-sustaining program is due January 15th. UFT Scholarship program will chose one child that will receive $1,000 scholarship.
    • Ms. Zoi McGrath, Principal
      • Budget cuts city-wide amounts $54,000 for our school and $12,000 negative balances on lunch money. Policy for promotion letters is to be distributed if doubt of passing. Criteria to be promoted, students must score a two on the state ELA and math test. Students who fail have to retake the standardized test in August. In 8th grade, students must score a two in ELA and math and pass all core subjects. Met with class representatives to talk about school uniforms. Cell phones and electronic equipment are not permitted in school and cannot be used on school grounds. If cell phones are seen, they will be taken away. SO organization is involved in collecting donations for the Haiti tragedies. Executive PTA Board approved a $100 donation from the PTA.
