PTA of MS 67

General Membership Meeting

April 25, 2013


Meeting was called to order at 7:07 PM.


A motion to approve minutes was made by Eleana Kokotos and was seconded by Donna Randazzo. Motion passed by vote from membership.


President’s Report:

Jerry Paretta thanked volunteers for selling refreshments at Night of the Arts.  PTA needs volunteers to sell refreshments on May 3 and 4 for Annie Get Your Gun.


Nominations for the PTA Executive Board are being accepted from now until May 23. All positions are open for nominations and co-positions are also available. Elections will take place at next meeting.


The Year-End Dinner will be held on June 6 at TJK Cafe.


School Leadership Team:

Outline of NY State ELA exam for 6, 7 and 8 grade was discussed. Students were adequately prepared.


Treasurer’s Report:

Report will be given at next meeting.


V.P. Membership:

There was nothing to report.



Family Bowling Day will be held at Herricks Lanes on April 28. The cost is $17/person.


School Safety Committee:

There was nothing to report. The DON’T WALK sign in front of the school will be replaced with a countdown box.


Guest Speakers:

Rachel Miller: All students will be given a Fitnessgram. This test is given during gym and is required by the Board of Ed.  The test tracks the child’s fitness throughout the school years to see his/her progress. It measures aerobic capacity, muscle strength, endurance, and flexibility.


David Lilienthal: Financial Planner spoke about different ways to save money for college.


Principal’s Report:

Mrs. McGrath was not present.


Parent Coordinator and Grade Reports:

6th Grade – Ms. Choit:

ELA testing is over. Tests are now being graded.

4/26 – 3rd Quarter Report Cards will be distributed.

5/16 – Interim Progress Reports will be distributed.

7th Grade – Mr. Schandel:

Math State testing is underway.

5/3 -5/4 – Annie Get Your Gun – tickets are $10.00.

8th Grade – Mr. Surrett:

High School 2nd round acceptance letters due in late May

5/13 – Cardozo H.S. counselors will visit 8th graders

5/18 – Open House for Science State Test

5/22 – 5/24 – Washington D.C. trip


Parent Coordinator – Ms. Bogaty:

NYC DEP will issue $350 tickets to parents for keeping cars idling for more than one minute in the school vicinity. Voting for CDEC on April 30.



A “Welcome Back” card was sent to Ms. Simos and a sympathy card was sent to Ms. Bogaty.
