General Membership Meeting
October 17, 2013

Meeting was called to order at 7:07 PM.  Motion to approve minutes was made by Donna Randazzo and seconded by Linda Courtney. Motion passed by vote from membership.

Co-President’s Report:
The Co-Presidents thanked volunteers for Picture Day and mentioned that Welcome Packets were distributed with Membership envelopes.

Treasurer’s Report:
Ruth Harrigan was not present at meeting. The Printing Budget is higher than $400.

 VP Membership Report:
Denise Racan will send out a reminder notice for Membership.

VP Fundraiser Report:
An ice skating event will take place on 10/18. Tickets can be purchased at the door.  Need parent volunteers.  Kid Stuff coupon book will be sold for $25.

School Leadership Team Report:
Discussed safety plan which was approved by Borough Safety Director, Alvis Brown. There are many lights in the auditorium that don’t work.

Guest Speakers:
Mr. David Marmas, Francis Lewis H.S. Principal – Discussed small school vs. large school setting. Francis Lewis H.S. offers many challenging programs and activities in addition to the largest ROTC program. Open House will be held on 10/30.

Mr. Alvis Brown, Borough Safety Director – Discussed emergency readiness in NYC Public Schools, which consists of:
-Building Response Team (BRT) – responsible for triaging any emergencies in building. This is the action management team and Ms. Choit is the BRT leader. In an emergency, parents need to stay away from building. Every parent should register with Notify NYC for up to date alerts, via email or text, of any incident within the school’s vicinity.
-General Response Protocols (GRP) – uses plain, common language such as “Shelter-in” when there’s a threat outside of school, “Evacuate” such as a controlled fire drill, and “Lockdown” when there’s a threat inside of school.
-Command Posts (CP) – there are 2 command posts (internal and external).
-Lockdown Drills (LD) – there are soft lockdowns (not an imminent danger) and hard lockdowns (an imminent danger).

Mr. Henry Schandel, 7th Grade AP – Presented  Jupiter Grade Workshop. This online grading system consists of 2 parent accounts and 1 student account. It shows a breakdown of the student’s grade by subject.

Administrator’s Report:

10/26 and 10/27 – SHSAT Test
11/11 – No School -Veteran’s Day
11/12 and 11/27- HS Applications due

Ms. Rhonda Bogaty, Parent Coordinator:
11/5 – No School for Students – Election Day
