Queens Borough President Melinda Katz invites you to the Next Parent Advisory Board meeting on NYC School Safety Protocols – May 31, 2018

Dear Parent Advisory Board members, Principals, Teachers, Parents, PA/PTA, and Parent Coordinators,

The next meeting of the Parent Advisory Board will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 6:00pm in Queens Borough Hall, Room 200 located at 120-55 Queens Boulevard, Kew Gardens, NY.

We will host an important information session with representatives from the Department of Education and the New York Police Department on the topic of school safety, in light of the recent school shootings in other states.

We will have the following guest speakers:

Mark Rampersant – Deputy CEO Office of Safety & Youth Development, NYC Department of Education

Jay Findling – Director of Emergency Readiness, Safety, and Security, NYC Department of Education

*Will outline the safety protocols in effect in the City’s public schools and go over the safety drills put in place to prepare schoolchildren on how they should respond in the event of a shooting.

 Sergeant Dwayne Palmer – School Safety Division, New York Police Department

*Will review the lessons law enforcement have learned from previous school shootings and discuss how these lessons have led to updated shooting response protocols.

Attendees will be able to ask questions during the questions and answer period of the meeting.
