Ice Cream Sale Volunteers Needed at Dismissal

The PTA will begin selling ice cream outside at dismissal every Tuesday afternoon beginning April 9th!!  In the event of inclement weather it will be rescheduled for the next day or later that week.  We will only be accepting exact change – $2 or $3.  We will need two parents to volunteer every week for about 30 minutes.  Parents can come to school, volunteer then take their child home.  For such a short amount of time, parent volunteers can make the students happy AND help supply our school with much needed funds.  Have you noticed the common PTA thread….it’s a win, win.  We need volunteers for this to be a success.  Sign up HERE, and THANK YOU!

The DOE presented their proposal at the District 26 Educational Council meeting recently, and many parents attended the meeting.

We were provided the following information from the Douglaston Civic Association in case you want to learn more about this topic:

“On Tuesday March 19, the Douglaston Civic Association will be holding a community meeting on Mayor de Blasio’s proposals to revamp admissions criteria for the Specialized High Schools, and related efforts to purportedly increase racial integration in the middle schools and Gifted and Talented programs.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at:

The Community Church of Douglaston
39-50 Douglaston Parkway;
Fellowship Hall
(lower floor; enter from parking lot in the rear)

Tuesday’s meeting will feature a presentation by David Lee of Coalition Edu and the Chinese American Citizens Alliance of Greater New York.  The Department of Education did not respond to our requests to send a representative to defend the Mayor’s proposals.”

Message from the School Regarding the Learning Environment Survey

Good Afternoon Parents,

Your child brought home the annual Learning Environment survey.  The feedback from this survey will help us to make improvements to our school.  The results will also contribute to our school’s annual Progress Report Grade.  It takes only a few minutes to complete this survey.  It can be completed online or in the paper form.   The paper survey can be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher.  If you choose to complete the survey online, please print out a confirmation and have your child give it to his/her homeroom teacher.  The first class from each grade that brings in 100% of the surveys will receive a donut party.

Last year, 73% of our parents completed the survey.  As of March 14, 2019, we have only 23% parent completion.  Our goal this year is to have at least 75% completion.  We urge you to complete this survey.

The survey needs to be completed no later than April 3, 2019.

Thank you for your cooperation.
